In Loving Memory of Irene Selma Lorsch August 6, 1926 – June 14, 2025

Irene Selma Lorsch, lovingly known to all as Grandma Lorschkie, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at the remarkable age of 98, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 6, 1926, Irene lived a life rich with love, laughter, resilience, and connection—a life truly well lived, and deeply loved by all.

From an early age, Irene radiated joy and built friendships that lasted a lifetime. A proud graduate of Fairfax High School, she and her close-knit friends formed the famously unnamed group “A Club Without A Name”—a fitting symbol of the fun and fierce bonds she carried with her through life.

Not long after high school, she met her beloved husband, Rudy Lorsch, and together they raised three children—Dan, Phred, and Nancy. While Rudy ran Canoga Furniture, Irene was the heart of the home. She kept the family running smoothly, hosted all of her kid's friends, and made sure everyone felt welcomed, loved, and—always—well-fed.

She traveled extensively with her husband Rudy, and generously shared a special cruise with her children and grandchildren for her 80th birthday.

Her grandchildren adored her. Grandma Lorschkie was a master of silly faces, heartfelt hugs and knowing everything about everyone. She made sure no one ever left her house hungry, offering up grapes or chocolate from the coffee table, whether you were hungry or not.

She was generous, kind, sharp as a tack, funny, and deeply passionate about social justice. She followed politics with unmatched vigor, and her family suspects that her disdain for the current president may have given her an extra boost of strength in her later years. Fittingly, she passed on the same day as one of the largest nationwide protests against him—a day of resistance that mirrored the fire in her spirit.

She was fiercely loyal, endlessly curious, and loved her family with a depth that could be felt in every phone call and every big hug.

She is survived by her children, Phred and Cindy, Nancy and David, Dan and Marla, grandchildren, Sarah and Harrison, Emma, and Rachel, and great-grandchildren, Iris, Maji and Zuri and a legacy of unconditional love.

A great life lived, loved by all. We love you.
