Sonia M Greenbaum

Sonia M. Greenbaum, 96, of Northridge, California passed away February 15, 2023 in Northridge, California. Sonia was born on January 21, 1927 to Henri and Marcel Nepveu in Portland, Oregon. She grew up with her beloved sister, Nadine, in Long Beach, California. Sonia attained her undergraduate degree in accounting at UC Berkeley. It was at UC Berkeley that she met her future husband and lifelong companion, Marvin Greenbaum. It was also here that she forged many close and lasting friendships, especially with the group of young women who dubbed themselves the “Fearless Fourteen.”  Sonia and Marvin were married on March 11, 1950; theirs was a union full of love, constancy, and adventure, lasting for more than 72 years. Among other pursuits, Sonia loved traveling with her husband and engaging in life-long learning in the fields of politics, history, culture, and music. She pursued volunteer activities and the ongoing cultivation of relationships with her friends, including the Fearless Fourteen, and the many who lived near her in Ladera Heights, where she and Marvin raised their two children, Larry and Mark. Sonia was predeceased by her parents Henri and Marcel Nepveu, her sister Nadine Asbury, and her brother-in-law, Dave Asbury. Sonia is survived by Marvin Greenbaum and their sons, Larry Greenbaum (Tracy Van Leeuwen) and Mark Greenbaum (Penny Brennan); her grandchildren Michael Greenbaum, Rachel Greenbaum, and Noah Brennan-Greenbaum; her niece, Karen Asbury and her nephew, David Asbury; and her brother-in-law, Harlan Foote. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Interment will be on February 21 at 3:00 pm at Mt. Sinai cemetery in Simi Valley.
