Mementos

With profound sadness we announce that Irving Tishler passed away quietly in his sleep on March 11, 2025.

Irving was born on April 23, 1937, in Chicago, IL, as the youngest of 8 children to Sarah and Abraham Tishler.

After moving to LA, he attended UCLA where he played baseball and became a reporter for the Daily Bruin. He later attended Loyola University Dental School in Chicago, graduating in 1965. He returned to California and opened a successful dental office in Encino, where he practiced for 50 years.

When he wasn't being a dentist, he enjoyed trying to teach his kids and grandkids how to throw a knuckleball.  He loved to laugh and tell bad dad jokes.

He was former husband of Sheila, a loving father to their children Todd, Darryl (Deborah) and Alissa, and a devoted grandfather to Lucas, Eric, Marco, Thomas and Xavier.

Well our beloved and inimitable Uncle Irv has made his way to the Fabulous Forum in the sky where he is sure to liven things up a bit in his new celestial home. The baby of Grandma Sarah's brood, he was kind, energetic and very, very funny...and he was certainly the only dentist in L.A. to practice with the electricity turned off to his office. Together with his older brother Marvin, he was part of the infamous comedy duo that roamed the greater So Cal area (and beyond) for decades, filling up their unsuspecting audiences with crazy humor and Catskillesque Jewish jokes. The dynamic duo once cornered Creed Salisbury's new wife at one of the Whittier events. After 10 minutes trapped between the two brothers, shes stood up exasperated and shouted "Who are these guys? They're driving me f**king crazy!!". We could certainly all relate to the sentiment---manic comic confusion writ large. Thanks for the mammaries...I mean memories...Uncle Irv. Thank you for all the kindness and love you blessed us with during our time together. Long may you run. With so much love and respect, Your nephew Stephen
