Recuerdos

Phyllis Orenstein, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.  Born on November 13, 1945 in Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell and Rose Skalka.

Phyllis always seemed happiest when she was reading at least 3 fictional books at a time.  She enjoyed spending her time at the beach at the Jersey Shore with her family, always with her book.  She enjoyed gathering with her friends playing Mahjong while always catching up on things.  You also couldn’t keep her off the sidelines of the soccer fields while cheering on David and Sherry.

She focused on charitable work with United Cerebral Palsy.  She was a volunteer most of her life as well as worked for the Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean County which is now Ladacin Network.  She worked within the Residential Adult Program.

She is survived by her sister Judy Grauer, daughter Sherry (Armando) Estrada, son David (Melissa) Orenstein and her grandchildren Samantha, Jason, Caitlyn and Isaak.

A graveside service with be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 11th at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Simi Valley.

Traci and I were saddened to hear the passing of our Aunt Phyllis. I have so many fond memories of holidays spent at Phyllis' home....whether Freehold, Simsbury or Marlboro. Thanksgiving and Passover holidays were always a large gathering of the extended family and her home was filled with the aromas of delicious food, animated conversation and the joy that comes with reconnecting with family. She was truly the glue that held the family together. Condolences to Sherry, David, Samantha, Jason, Caitlin and Isaak. And of course Armando and Melissa. Sending our love. Steve and Traci
