Kenneth M Solovy

Kenneth M. Solovy, 83, of Thousand Oaks, California passed away February 18, 2023, from Glioblastoma. He was born on February 14, 1940, to Samuel and Shirley (Learner) Solovy in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up with his brother, Joel, on the South Side of Chicago, IL and attended South Shore High School.  He studied at the University of Illinois where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences and a PhD in Organic Chemistry. There he met his future wife and lifelong companion, Susan Weinberg.  It was also here that he forged many close friendships.  Kenneth and Susan were married on June 16, 1964 and had a marriage filled with love and friendship. Kenneth moved to Binghamton, NY with Susan and began his professional career there as a photographic film research chemist.  It was there that their children Robert and JoAnne were born.  He loved golfing, woodworking, playing chess and traveling.   His career took him and his family to Southern California where he continued his work as a photographic chemist.   He transitioned to a career teaching Chemistry at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, CA.  Both faculty and students recognized him as an outstanding and inspirational educator and mentor. Kenneth loved spending time with his wife Susan, son Robert (Emily) Solovy, daughter JoAnne (Adya) Riss, as well as grandchildren Emma and August Riss, and Shirley Solovy.  He also enjoyed attending the theater, going to museums, listening to violin music, playing poker, watching the news and being aware of the happenings in the world.  He was a kind and honest person, but what he loved most was his family and friends.
