Philip Edmond Block, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona at 89 years old. He was a lifelong educator and teacher and an extremely proud veteran.
Born on Christmas Day, in Long Beach, California, Philip spent most of his life in Southern California. He was a proud graduate of the University of Southern California, where he earned his Master’s Degree. A dedicated member of his fraternity and an ardent supporter of the USC Trojans, he carried his love for learning and camaraderie throughout his life.
Philip found his true calling as an educator, teaching science and other subjects for over 40 years. He was deeply passionate about sharing his knowledge and inspiring generations of students. His impact in the classroom was felt far beyond the subjects he taught, as he encouraged curiosity and critical thinking in all who knew him.
Beyond his professional life, Philip was known for his robust sense of humor, quick wit, and endless supply of jokes and stories. He had an incredible gift for making friends wherever he went and found joy in being surrounded by people of all types. His warmth, laughter, and storytelling will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Philip is survived by his wife, Lucille; his daughters, Debbie (Ron Blum) and Carol (Felix Dillon); and his beloved grandchildren, Matthew Blum, Alex Dillon, Nicholas Dillon and Allison Blum. He also leaves behind his two cherished great-grandsons, Theodore Blum and Oliver Blum. His legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
The family requests that donations be made in his honor to the fund for teachers (https://fundforteachers.org/) to continue to inspire learning in future generations.
Philip’s spirit, kindness, and humor will remain in our hearts forever.
