Norma Miles

Norma Miles was born Norma Kane on December 20, 1935, in Chicago, IL.  She was the eldest child of Milton and Amelia Kane, later becoming big sister to her brother Stuart and sister Patty.  She was known for her outgoing nature, making many friends during her childhood. Norma enjoyed playing sports and was also a high school cheerleader, setting the foundation for her energetic and social personality.

 

In 1960, after marrying Bob Waller, Norma moved to California, where the couple settled in Northridge. They welcomed two children, Wendy and Jeff.  After her divorce in 1971, Norma became dedicated to supporting her family, ensuring she could keep her home and provide for her children.  She began working as a secretary and, over the years, transitioned into sales—a field where her natural charm, strong work ethic, and determined attitude helped her excel.

 

Norma’s life took a joyful turn in 1987 when she met Ellis Miles at a mixer.  They married in 1989, and Norma gained three bonus children: Jeff, Dawn, and Brandi.  She eventually became a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren.  Norma and Ellis shared a 30-year marriage filled with travel, tennis, and time spent at their second home in Yountville, Napa Valley.  Norma also cherished adventures and outings with her long-time friends.  A talented artist, Norma painted beautiful watercolors and was an avid tap dancer—a passion she loved sharing with her grandchildren by teaching them to dance.

 

After Ellis’s passing and the COVID-19 pandemic, Norma chose to move into assisted living.  There, she could once again be social and participate in a variety of activities, embracing her love for making new friends.

 

Norma died peacefully on February 21, 2026, surrounded by her family. 

 

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Stuart, her husband Ellis, and her stepson Jeff (Nancy).  She is survived by her children Wendy (Dan) Kogen, Jeff Waller, Dawn (Chris) Roderick, Brandi (Greg) Moore; and her grandchildren Dylan (Lizzy) Roderick, Dalton (Jamie) Roderick, Darah (Shane) Cutchall, Emilia Miles, Emmet Moore, Julianna Miles, Ari (Sarah) Kogen, and Micah Kogen; as well as a new great grandson, Reece Cutchall, born just two days after Norma’s passing.
