Serene Lazar

In Loving Memory of Serene Lazar (1928–2025)

Serene passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by all her children.Born in Sioux City, Iowa, she spent her  childhood celebrating Shabbat dinners in the back of her father’s shop and playing in the snow during the cold winters with her siblings.She then found her husband Rubin in the warmth of Los Angeles. Together, they raised three children in Studio City and Sherman Oaks. They were devoted to the Jewish community, embracing conservative Judaism, Adat Ari El, Camp Ramah, American Jewish University and so many other organizations supporting Israel, the Jewish People and Tikkun Olam .Serene’s warmth, humor, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.Many of her children’s childhood friends would still come visit until her death and she captivated those around her from her den chair. She would offer her words of wisdom and memories in between Jeopardy, Law and Order and NCIS shows on TV.She will be remembered for her smiles, stories, and the light she had in her eyes every time she was surrounded by those she loved.Serene was her name and that is how she will be remembered. She was proof you don’t need to be loud to make a difference.She leaves behind:
