Stanley Rothman

Stan was born October 18, 1935 in New York City.  His dad ran a bodega.  He was raised orthodox, and his parents wanted him to be a rabbi, and nothing else.  Despite their wishes, he went to CCNY and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering.  He left home, and started his non-kosher journey with a hot dog. He visited Cuba with his friends days before the revolution.   His first job was with Hughes aircraft, and he got to travel to upper Michigan for work.  He eventually settled in Los Angeles, and got involved in politics where he met Audrey.  They married and had Anthony and Matthew.  Stan moved jobs to JPL, and at the same time went to USC law school in the evening.  He practiced law for over 50 years, and became obsessed with tennis.  He played almost everyday for decades, making some of his closest friends through tennis at Cheviot Hills Tennis Center and Mountaingate Country Club.  He played until he needed knee replacements.  After that, he would spend almost everyday working out at the gym.

 

Stan was a food expert before the awful word "foodie" was invented--always seemed to know some hole in the wall or new good spot.  He loved film, TV, sports and music.  

 

He never missed a grandkids sporting event, with his chair he would bring to the games, usually accompanied by Audrey.  

 

In recent years, his health slowed him down, which was difficult.  He started to have memory issues and just make some wacky decisions that led him to injury.  He was diagnosed with early stage alzheimers about 2 years ago, and received the newest treatment available.  It seemed to keep the disease in check, but his years of sports seemed to break down his walking and moving. 

 

We will miss his positive attitude, his inquisitive mind, and his life.
