September 7th, 1950 - May 27th, 2024

Ronald (“Ron”) Neil Kaplan passed away on May 27, 2024, at the age of 73 at his home in Encino, California. A lifelong, beloved resident of Encino, Ron graduated from Birmingham High School where he was recognized as a gifted student and athlete. He went on to play baseball for the University of Southern California during an era of their unprecedented run of national titles. Following college, he had a distinguished, 40-year career in the airlines industry, most recently with United Airlines, where he was known for his dedication and professionalism. His friends and colleagues remember him for his quick wit and caring demeanor. Ron was a health nut and an avid LA Dodgers fan who never missed a game. He traveled the world, and upon his returns, loved to share photos and stories of his trips, which inspired others to follow his lead and learn about other cultures through travel. His friends and family will always remember his lively conversation, intelligence, humor, kindness, and booming, baritone voice – always ready to fill in for Vin Scully, if asked. His voice enabled him to work as an amateur radio DJ during his early adulthood. Ron also had a special love for his nieces and nephews, always cherishing the time spent with them whether that was practicing baseball in the park, chaperoning college tours, or watching their games, many at Encino Little League. Ron was actively involved in the Encino community, contributing his time and energy to various local causes and organizations. Ron is survived by his loving brother and sister, Howard Kaplan and Anita Marino (Stephan), nephews Dean Marino (Jamie), Richard Marino (Angela), and nieces Brandi Marino, Raquel Hernandez,Nicole Kaplan, and loving cousin Leslie Babroff. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
