Jay R Davis

28 de agosto de 1958 - 28 de noviembre de 2022

28 de agosto de 1958 - 28 de noviembre de 2022

The fastidious and obnoxiously intelligent Jay Robert Davis of Burbank, CA left us unexpectedly at the age of 64, passing away on November 28, 2022 in his home. Jay’s story began on August 31, 1958, when he was born to Arnold and Evelyn Davis in Toronto, Canada. As a child, he showed that he had a mischievous soul with a sharp sense of humor that could be both dry and silly. As Jay grew, he displayed an aptitude for academia as well as an insatiable appetite for learning, doggedly pursuing higher education. He attended York University for his Bachelor of Arts, obtained a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego, and earned a Masters of Law from New York University. After passing the bar on December 23, 1987, he proceeded to practice law for thirty-five years, working as General Counsel for Steel Built Corporation and as Associate General Counsel for Maxicare Health. The law was a lifelong passion for him, and he was true scholar of it. It was clear to everyone, from friends to acquaintances, that he took joy in understanding the legal foundations of America. Not only a man of the law, Jay was also a family man. He married Alexandra, a nurse, in 2008, and they had Sophie, who became the younger sister to Reneerose, his first daughter. Together they built a life filled with words, as they frequently loved to talk late into the night about anything and everything. He took great care to maintain a circle of dear friends, some reaching back to his high school years. Jay was a multifaceted person with many interests. He excelled at gardening. He had a deep love affair with music and was known for being an audiophile, an aficionado of 60s rock classics, and a connoisseur of vinyl. He was also a film lover and enjoyed introducing others to shows like The Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm. A quirky fact that many do not know is that he participated in the art of tarot for decades. Jay was a caring and devoted cat dad to his beloved Oliver. He was thoughtful, articulate, quick witted, knowledgeable, and logical to a fault. He is remembered for his gutsy bravado and engaging personality. Jay is survived by his wife, Alex and their young daughter, Sophie, who hopes that he is resting in peace; his daughter, Reneerose from his first wife, Mary; his father, Arnold; his stepmother, Selene; and his siblings, Shawn, Robin, Daniel, and Natasha. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Evelyn. The funeral will be held at Mount Sinai in Hollywood Hills on Friday, December 2, 2022. There will be no visitation, and the service will be private.

I only just learned of Jay's passing because his father, my former boss for many years, has just passed. I only knew Jay for a few short years while we worked together, but whoever wrote Jay's obituary was spot on. Jay could sometimes be a bear but, once you got to know him, he was a very kind, caring, and intuitive person. I also know that he cared very deeply for the women in his life: Alex, Sophie, and Reneerose. My sincerest sympathies for all who had the honor of knowing Jay. My heart breaks for all those he left behind. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit". ~Psalm 34:18
