Matthew A. Sapper

Matthew lived a beautiful life, cut way too short by a horrible disease. 

In September, 2023 Matthew was diagnosed with DMG/DIPG https://dipg.org/facts/what-is-dipg/

This rare and always fatal pediatric brain cancer is diagnosed in a few hundred children per year.  Matthew's particular mutation made his cancer even more rare.  

Matthew fought his disease with every ounce of his being, and never lost his sense of humor, his love for G-d, or his love of family.  

He protected his loved ones from knowing the pain on the inside of his body, by keeping a beautiful smile on his face.

Over the past 20 months, he has been surrounded by family and friends, making the most of each good day and enjoying some wonderful adventures. His siblings, Sydney, Karl and Molly, supported and loved Matthew every step of the way.

Matthew received excellent medical care along his journey, in particular at City of Hope Cancer Center. Matthew was a participant in a CAR-T trial at City of Hope.  Every single person on the staff - from the crossing guard, to housekeeping, nursing, PA's, and doctors - were amazing.  They cared for the whole family; not only Matthew,  but his parents Dana and Howard,  who were with Matthew for every appointment and spent every night in the hospital when Matthew was hospitalized.
