Robert Mayer
March 6th, 1947 - September 25th, 2022
March 6th, 1947 - September 25th, 2022
March 6, 1947 – September 25, 2022. Robert Mayer, at 75 years old, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022. He was born in Romania on March 6, 1947 to Max Mayer and Esther Mayer, both Holocaust survivors. After immigrating to the United States in 1969, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles in 1971 and a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from California State University Los Angeles in 1977. He received his license to practice Structural Engineering in 1975, which he did until the very end. Robert found joy in connecting with people, art, photography, cameras, music, food, and travel. He was especially passionate about listening to a wide variety of music, sometimes being brought to tears when a song struck him. He had a talent for playing the keyboard and accordion. Fortunate to travel for work, he spent many months in Columbia, Korea, Italy and Mexico immersing himself in the local culture including learning to speak many languages. He liked to connect with people through humor, silliness and his gentle nature. He is survived by his wife, Susan Eileen Mayer, his son, Max Mayer, his daughter Raquel Aviva Mayer and his brother David Mayer. He also leaves behind in-laws, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at Mount Sinai Memorial Park and Mortuary at the Courts of Tanach chapel on Friday, September 30th at 12:30 p.m. Please note that masks are required during the service. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California of which he was a great fan.
