Ways you can honor Eugene's memory:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Malitz , beloved husband of the late Judith Malitz ( Rutberg ), on May 23 2025, at the age of 98. What made Eugene truly remarkable was not merely the length of his years ,but his character, integrity, wisdom, and love for his family . Eugene was a devoted son , husband , father, grandfather , and great grandfather . Born on April 23, 1927 in New York City to the late Minnie and Abe Malitz , Eugene lived a full , happy , and accomplished life . He attended the University of Michigan under grad on a navy scholarship , and then continued on at the medical school there, graduating at age 24. Eugene’s talent for singing was recognized and he won several singing awards and was the lead soloist in his high school and navy choirs. He considered becoming an opera singer, but decided that medicine would be his vocation and singing his avocation . After medical school while working as a psychiatrist at the US Naval Hospital , a visiting Rabbi invited Eugene to synagogue to act as the cantor for a Friday evening service , and it was there that he met the love of his life, Judy . Eugene was full of optimism and energy with an extraordinary work ethic and limitless intellectual curiosity. In his spare time he loved fixing things , and learning how to do anything mechanical . But more than anything else , he loved spending time with Judy and the rest of his family . He enjoyed traveling with them, watching them play sports , or perform in the arts , and took great pride in watching his family grow and flourish . Eugene will be greatly missed by his daughters Elena Kanner (Neil ) and Wendy Himber , grandchildren Jennifer Love (Jason),Kim Furniss ( Matt ), Jesse Taylor ( Taylor ), Alli Himber , Matt Kanner , Kayla Kanner , and great grandchildren Morgan , Katie, Ryan, Avery. Jack , Grant and Poppy. Eugene was pre-deceased by his dear daughter Beth Taylor , and her loving husband Greg .
