Sylvia Fireman
Sylvia (Hubner) (Levy) Fireman, 3 September 1928 - 23 June 2021
Sylvia Hubner, beloved matriarch, was born and raised in New York City, the daughter of Polish emigres who gave what little they had to others who struggled. She never forgot their charitable example, and was forever grateful for the kindness bestowed on her family by the local Democratic party. For the rest of her days, she freely donated to political and charitable causes.
After graduating Roosevelt High School, she married her sweetheart, Seymour Levy, then awaited his return from service on the USS Intrepid in World War II. Together, they made a home in Sun Valley as Mr Levy pursued various business ventures, including ownership of the 575 Club (now Molly Malone’s Irish Pub).
After losing Seymour to Hodgkin’s lymphoma, she continued to raise her daughters and watched them raise families of their own. She worked as a bank teller at Bank of America in North Hollywood, where she caught the eye of David Fireman. This second chance at love brought a 17 year marriage and two stepdaughters. After David’s passing, she spent her final 25 years in retirement, consuming novels, newspapers, and political dialogue.
Sylvia Fireman is survived by daughters Roberta Mond (Gary) and Barbara Smith (Robert), stepdaughters Lisa Piltz (Alan) and Gwyn Livengood (Timothy), seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, 27 June, 9:00 am at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, Tanakh Chapel, with a brief graveside service to follow.
