Eve Weber

Bruce H. Weber was a writer.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 2, 1938, he was transplanted to Los Angeles at the age of 12 but remained at heart a Brooklyn boy and avid Dodger fan for life.

His journalism career began when he was a student at ANA writing reports of student sports and other school events for the local Carlsbad newspapers and the San Diego Union. He was paid 10 cents per printed column inch. He also wrote and published his own Junior Digest and Senior Digest newspapers which he sold to classmates.

In his college years, Bruce wrote for the L.A. Times Sports Department while studying journalism. This was followed by several years as a full-time news writer for a couple of Copley newspapers in Southern California.

Contacts developed while researching stories and writing bold-face-name gossip columns led to expertise and intros in the fields of entertainment and state and national politics. Eventually he was invited to be on the team of speechwriters for John Kennedy and later, Bobby Kennedy.

After the assassinations of both, Bruce turned back to the entertainment field, specifically focusing on the music industry. An editorship at Billboard Magazine led to his years in public relations for stars such as Carole King and Sergio Mendes, and also heads of companies such as Disney, Audio Magnetics and Rainbo Records.

Although Bruce was always working at least two jobs at a time throughout his career, he never neglected his primary loves—wife, Eve, and children: Carrie (m. to Eric), Rena, Greg (m. to Laurie) and Bentley (m. to Andrea). He coached the boys’ baseball teams and devoted Sundays to kids-and-Daddy outings to the pony rides, amusement parks, and visits to the grandparents.

Throughout their lives—and the lives of his grandchildren, Jared, Jacob (m. to Cat), Meagan, Cody and Franklin—Bruce remained chief overseer, advisor, consultant and life-coach.

After retiring, Bruce and Eve relocated from Tarzana to the San Diego area. There Bruce began to reconnect with his classmates from the class of ’56, ’55 and ’57. He produced “The Schmooze Newz” a collection of pictures and news about every member of his class he was able to locate. This newsletter was distributed first by mail and later by e-mail monthly. Bruce also began writing short memoir-style stories covering his recollections from every phase of life.

Bruce passed away peacefully holding the hand of his wife of 65 years in their retirement home apartment in La Jolla, California on October 3, 2025.

He lives on in those many stories, those snippets of fictionalized history Bruce was so eager to share with family, classmates, old friends and new friends—in fact, anyone who would ask for a copy. As with his friendship, he gave freely his interest, his caring, his love, his stories.

Bruce was a writer.
