Elinore Ross
February 24,1929-July 22, 2024
Our beloved Elinore Ross, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, at the age of ninety-five, in Torrance California.
She was born and raised in Brooklyn NY, to William and Rose Ritigstein, the eldest of three children. Her sister, Renee Chizever (Larry) lives in NY and her brother, Jerry Ritigstein, (Hinda) predeceased her in June 2022.
Elinore was married to George Ross for 39 years and they had three children, Stephanie (Lincoln), Sheryl (Burt) and Ivan (Phyllis). After her divorce, she met Fred Stern, and they had a loving relationship for over 20 years.
Grandma Ellie, as they called her, had thirteen grandchildren, Robin (Loren), Lisa (Taylor), Allison (Matt), Jason (Sara), Kevin, Richard, David (Charlotte), Lindsey (Dylan), David (Navi), Shayna (Josh), Kelly, John, and Pat (Emily). She was blessed to meet her thirteen great-grandchildren and acquired the name Gigi.
Elinore was loved by her nieces and nephews for her fun-loving personality and her generosity. She was also a good friend to many, both in New York and in California.
Elinore always said that her family was the most important thing in her life. When her two daughters moved to California, she had the love and the courage to follow them. She moved to Playa Del Rey in September,1981, where she spent most of her life. She cherished her visits back to NY to see Ivan, Renee, Jerry, her East Coast grandchildren, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
During her time in California, she and George owned Coney Island West Ice Cream-Deli in Marina del Rey. She loved to dance and especially enjoyed the weekend music at Fisherman’s Village.
Once retired, she frequented the Westchester Sr. Center, where she socialized, learned Zumba, exercised, and developed long-lasting friendships. In time, she was asked to work part-time as the Center’s receptionist and assist with the meals-on-wheels program.
Elinore always wanted the best for everyone. She was accepting of all and extremely non-judgmental. She always had a smile on her face and had the ability to find the positive in any situation. She took great pride in her independence and had a zest for life.
Memories of this amazing woman will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed.
