Howard S. Klein
May 21st, 1937 - June 29th, 2024
May 21st, 1937 - June 29th, 2024
Howard Stephen Klein passed away on June 29, 2024. Howard was born on May 21, 1937 in Chicago and was raised as an only child by his doting parents, Joseph and Ida Klein. Howard was a sweet, bright boy and was a contestant on the Whiz Kids radio program as a young child. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1951 to escape the harsh Chicago winters.
Howard was a member of the chess club at Fairfax High School, where he graduated in 1954. He then attended UCLA for his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society in his junior year. Howard then attended UCLA law school, obtaining his Juris Doctor degree in 1961. He went on to have a distinguished 52-year career as an attorney, specializing in Family Law, Estate Planning, and Estate Litigation. Howard was one of the first Certified Specialists in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law in the state of California, contributing to Continuing Education of the Bar activities, primarily on probate/family law cross-over issues, on which he was an acknowledged authority. He was on the Los Angeles Superior Court Probate Mediation Panel and mediated over 100 cases in his career. Howard also enjoyed mentoring younger attorneys throughout his career. In 1982, Howard founded the Law Offices of Howard S. Klein, managed by his wife, Rossy, and he eventually retired as a partner from Feinberg Mindel Brandt & Klein in 2014.
Howard was introduced to his beautiful loving wife, Rossy, on a blind date in 1962. They married in 1964 and went on to have two children, Susan and Danny. Howard was very proud of being Jewish and believed in tikkun olam, making the world a better place. He was very involved with B’nai Brith, serving as District 4 Grand President from 1980-1981 and was a member of the B’nai Brith International Court of Appeals. After his retirement, Howard continued to pursue intellectual activities, joining study groups such as The Salon and attending extension courses through The Plato Society. Always a compassionate and social man, Howard volunteered for The Roze Room hospice, providing home visits to strangers in their final days.
Howard was a warm-hearted, loving man…a true mensch. He enjoyed meeting new people and relishing time with old friends. He loved exploring new cuisines, music and cultures, watching sports, traveling the world with his beloved Rossy, and spending time with family.
Howard is survived by his wife, Rosalind, his children Susan (Steve) and Daniel (Inbar), and four grandchildren: Gil, Joseph, Carrine, and Joshua. The family would like to thank Michelle and Hershey Weisman and the staff of The Nest for their loving care of Howard in his final days.
