Magic Marty: Always in Our Hearts

Martin Israel Taft

Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Friend

Marty to most – and “Magic Marty” to many – was truly one-of-a-kind.  Born in Brooklyn in 1930, Marty continuously reinvented himself over the last 94 years.  Devotedly married to Etthel for 68 years, Marty was steadfastly dedicated to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and the support of the Israel through his Labor Zionist activism and leadership. Together with Ettie, they were a powerful duo - giving back to the Jewish community and supporting the arts. Marty founded a number of companies – all dedicated to the betterment of the world.  His interests spanned from engineering to music, travel, woodworking, and later in life poetry, drawing, and, of course, magic. A proud member of the Magic Castle, he always had a deck of card with him, ready to entertain at a moment’s notice.  He will be greatly missed by his family and loving circle of friends.

Marty's family encourage you to leave a memory or a story about your connection to Marty on this page.  As a storyteller himself, Marty always relished recollections of good times with family and friends, a good joke, and even some bad ones!
