March 6th, 1974 - July 11th, 2024
William Robert Bates, 50, of Los Angeles, passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, on July 11, 2024.
Bill was born March 6, 1974, to Andrea and Robert, in Kankakee, Illinois and was raised by his mother Andrea and father Phil. At 14, he moved to Savannah, Georgia, already a diehard fan of the Chicago Cubs and Star Trek. Bill forged lifelong friendships while attending Sol C. Johnson High School and Armstrong Atlantic State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. Bill earned college tuition by joining the Georgia Air National Guard, 283rd Combat Communications Squadron. He was a gifted artist with diverse talents who played the clarinet and saxophone, led in school plays, and earned many awards as a painter and cartoonist.
In 2001, Bill met his future wife, Rachel, and almost immediately moved to Los Angeles to be with her. They married in 2008, and the home they built together was filled with laughter, joy, and their many friends. Bill’s quick wit, sense of humor, and natural empathy made their home the center of nearly every holiday and important event. Bill could often be found surrounded by friends, in the pool, wearing the Cubs hat that was never far from him.
A man who cherished his family, friends, and coworkers, Bill was best known for making people laugh and welcoming them to his home. He was generous with his time and always ready to help anybody who asked. We will truly miss the fun, laughter, and delight he gave us.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Rachel and their dog Toby, father Phil Stark, brothers Greg, Ken and Robert, sister Bonnie and countless other family members and friends.
