Opening Words

Together we recite:  In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember him.In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember him.In the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember him.In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of the summer, we remember him.In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we remember him.In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember him.So long as we live, we w-r him.

READER 1  A song for ascents. Psalm 121

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains from where will my help come?My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.Behold, He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps!

The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.By day the sun will not strike you, nor the moon by night.

The Lord will guard you from all harm; He will guard your life. The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in, from this time forth and forever

Recitation of Psalm 23 --A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I lack nothing.2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.3 He restores my soul; He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.5 You spread a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Amen

Reader 2 (Life is a Journey, by Alvin Fine)Birth is a beginning and death a destination; but life is a journey.A going, a growing from stage to stage:From childhood to maturity,  and from youth to old age. From innocence to awareness and from ignorance to knowing; From foolishness to discretion and then perhaps, to wisdom. From weakness to strength  and from  strength to weakness. From health to sickness and back we pray, to health again. From offense to forgiveness, from loneliness to loveFrom selfishness to generosity, From joy to gratitude, from pain to compassion. From grief to understanding, from fear to faith; From our experiences we understand that life is a journey of love, and service, and sacrifice shared with God and family and friends in community, that  success lies not in the high places along the way, but in having made the journey, stage by stage, hand in hand-a sacred pilgrimage, loving others along the way...Personal Remembrances:

Guests may briefly share memories, read a poem, or offer a short tribute. This is an intimate reflection, not a full funeral eulogy.

Consecration

Reader 3:May this hour, consecrated to  Charles Heideman’s memory, bring its message of consolation to us. May this monument remind us of the immortality of the soul, of memories that never fade, and of love that remains. Let it remind us that our own actions live in the memory of others, and echo through eternity

Together we recite:

Compassionate God, we consecrate this memorial as a sign of love and memory to Charles Heideman, who has entered eternity. We ask your compassion on him and to grant him perfect rest and peace in Your sheltering presence. O God of mercy, let him find refuge beneath the shadow of Your sheltering wings, and by your mercy let his soul be bound up in the bond of everlasting life, and let us say, Amen.

The UnveilingDesignated family members step forward and gently pull away the cloth covering, revealing the new tablet. Inscriptions on the marker are read. Rocks may be placed to signify presence and remembrance.

Thank you all for coming.
