Jay J. Shery
Remembering Jay Shery, beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jay Jonah Shery, who left us on February 7, 2026, in Los Angeles, at the age of 70. Born in New Jersey, Jay was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, whose life was marked by his unwavering kindness and humor.
Jay is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, and his cherished daughters: Erica (Tim), Samantha (David), and Laura (Jeff). He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Josh, Ella, Hunter, Brendan, Chloe, and Harper. He is also survived by his father Henry, sister Beth (Don), and brother Steven (Lori). Jay's family was the center of his universe, and he dedicated countless hours to nurturing and supporting them.
Jay's educational journey was as remarkable as his life. He held a Juris Doctorate, a Doctor of Chiropractic, and a Doctor of Medicine degrees. He was in private chiropractic practice in Culver City for 40 years and most recently served as an attorney with Goldman Magdalin Straatsma, LLP. His diverse expertise allowed him to approach challenges with a unique perspective and serve his community in various capacities throughout his life.
Jay was "Mr. Volunteer". As the President of the Culver City Exchange Club, Jay demonstrated his commitment to giving back to the community for over 30 years, showcasing his dedication to volunteer work, which was a cornerstone of his character. His genuine kindness and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered for his quick wit and dad jokes.
Jay enjoyed a kaleidoscope of interests, including spending time with his family, playing with his dogs, sailing, playing pickleball, bowling, bike riding, and traveling. His zest for life and ability to find joy in simple pleasures enriched the lives of those around him.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Blood Cancer United in Jay's memory, honoring his lasting legacy of helping others.
Jay Jonah Shery leaves behind a profound legacy of love, dedication, and service. He had hundreds of friends, and he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His funeral service will take place on Tuesday February 10, 2026 at 10am at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries (Simi Valley). A livestream link is available for those that would like to join virtually. (https://mount-sinai-memorial-parks-and-mortuaries.livecontrol.tv/5a4587ee)

Jay was one of the smartest men I have ever known. We served together for many years on the San Fernando Valley Chiropractic District. Much of the time he was the Director to my being president, and I relied upon his knowledge and insight often. He was one of those persons who never appeared to get flustered, but keep a cool head when we encountered obstacles. He was a gentle and humble man and I am truly saddened by his passing. To his family I ask the Lord to wrap you in his loving mercy and comfort you in this time of loss and sorrow.

Jay's life was a life of service, and in that service he became a bright light. His light was brilliant because he burned the candle at both ends. In burning that candle at both ends, the time he gave us that light was shortened. I will always keep your memory close to my heart.

Jay, you will be deeply missed. I was blessed to know you for over 35 years, and you were such an important part of my life. I was just a kid working in your office when we met, and you taught me so much — not just about work, but about life. You stood by me through so many milestones — when I married Dan and when I bought my first home — always offering steady guidance and the best advice. Even after I moved on to Warner Bros., our friendship never skipped a beat. For 35 years, we never missed a birthday call. I’m so grateful I had the chance to meet Joan in Catalina, and I will always cherish our friendship. Thank you for your friendship, your wisdom, and your unwavering presence in my life. I will carry you in my heart always. Love, Dan & Laurie Krattiger
