JUDITH ELLEN SOLOMON-MARKS (b. July 21, 1951) of Valley Village, CA passed today, May 8, 2013 from complications of liver disease. Judy was a native of Los Angeles and loving mother of daughter Emily R. Marks and Gabriel J. Marks (deceased). She was the adored daughter of Alvin and Zelda (nee Fagelson) Solomon (deceased), and stepmother, Barbara. She is survived by her daughter Emily, brother, Michael and sister-in-law, Lori, also of Studio City, and several nieces and nephews. Judy holds a baccalaureate graduate in Sociology, class of 1973, from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She went on to graduate school at Pacific Oaks College, Pasadena where she earned an early childhood specialty teaching credential. Fluent in Spanish, she was employed throughout the greater Los Angeles area teaching "Mommy and Me" courses, pre-school, early childhood development courses to new mothers, and vocational education classes for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She distinguished her career by co-authoring and editing several professional texts and journals in the early childhood education academic field. Her passion for travel took her around the world on ocean cruise lines often in the company of her father, Alvin, and daughter, Emily. Her lifelong enjoyment of all things Wizard of Oz related provided a storyline and a metaphor for many events in her life. Her family, friends, and fellow educators will miss Judy very much. Services will be held on May 10, 2013 at 2 PM at Mount Sinai - Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068. Donations to the University of California at Santa Barbara Alumni Association are appreciated.

Judy was my first friend. We were in preschool together, as our mothers knew each other from high school. I will always treasure memories of her kindness and thoughtfulness, her abundant enthusiasm and optimism, her infectious sense of humor and wonderful laugh, To Judy, strangers were friends she hadn't met yet. She left us far too soon. I miss her already. My deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and students.

I believe it was 2005 when I was attending North Valley Occupational Center. It was always fun in her room and she was just a great instructor. When I needed help or advise with children she was always there to help me and others. She would always compliment me on how well I was doing with the children. Even when I past her class i still visited her before or after work and when I started working for LAUSD at that time. I would go and visit her and she would always say, "Oh hi Ted, I was just talking about you to my new students." Every time she said that it would always bring a smile on my face. She also said to the class while I was visiting that when Mr. Ted walks in the classroom it's fun time or hey Uncle Ted is here let's have some fun. I'll never forget that compliment. My deepest condolences to the Solomon Family.

Judy was a Hollywood high school friend. Her smile filled a room. Her eyes twinkled. Somehow I always felt safe with her because she was true to her self and projected strength and compassion. My deepest condolences to her daughter and her family. I am so sorry for your loss. I am sorry that it is so close to Mother's Day, and yet, now you will always be able to reach across the portal of passing and give your Mom a bonded tear and kiss. I will say a prayer for her and all of the Solomon Family.
