Mark Pash passed away on December 29, 2024 from cancer. He was a generous and kind man, a true friend, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Mark and his wife Ruth spent 56 wonderful years together cruising, playing bridge and golf.

Mark’s daughter Andrea inherited his sense of humor and shared his love of sports even though she was a Yankee fan rather than a Dodger fan. His love of travel inspired her to move to New York City and London. His daughter Kim shared his calm and easygoing demeanor. They traveled the world together, including his dream trip to Egypt. Her husband Michael formed a strong bond with Mark, always talking politics and playing golf. Mark adored his grandkids Zealand (21) and Rayne (15).

Mark was a Trekkie from the very first episode of Star Trek in 1966. One of his favorite moments was when he had a cameo as a Q Judge in Star Trek: Voyager (Season 7, Episode 19).

Mark was born in Long Beach and raised in Orange County, California, the oldest of four. He got his bachelor’s degree in business from UCLA and his MBA from USC. He graduated from ROTC and served as a first lieutenant, US Army Quartermaster Corp.

He earned a Certified Financial Planning designation and served his clients for 45 years. Money Magazine listed him as one of the top financial planners in the nation.

Mark ran for Congress in the 24th Congressional District in 1997.  He was very active, holding senior positions in several Democratic Organizations over the years.  Politics was important to him.

Mark formed the non-profit Center for Progressive Economics (CPE). He was an active member of the American Monetary Institute of New York. He wrote three books about monetary reform and macroeconomic philosophy.

Mark is survived by his wife Ruth, his daughters Andrea and Kimberly (Michael), his grandchildren Zealand and Rayne, his brothers Darrell (Lynn) and Richard (Laura), and his sister Diana (Melissa) plus many nieces and nephews.

Mark, we love you and were lucky to have you for as long as we did, even if it wasn't long enough. You will forever be in our hearts and our thoughts.

Mark Pash was one of my first bosses, the first boss I had in an office job. He was warm, kind, and passionate about the causes he believed in. I think back often on the things he said. Many of the issues he talked about were extremely prescient for their time and are now at the forefront of political discourse. I was very impressed by the depth of his knowledge, his military service, and his ever-positive attitude. My deepest condolences to Ruth and the whole family. I'm sorry I could not make the memorial service. Mark was a great man and I am very lucky to have known him, worked for him and be inspired by him.

I was very sad to learn on Jan 1 that Mark died a few days before. I send my condolences to his family and closest friends, the ones who knew him best and for whom this is the greatest loss. I first met Mark in the 2000s at the annual conferences of the American Monetary Institute some of which Mark presented at. He spoke about his personal outreach to and education of legislators, modeling what we all should be doing, and helping us to do likewise. In 2018 we and others from AMI worked together to found a new partnering organization, the Alliance For Just Money. Mark later served with me and others on its Board, Legislative Action Committee, and Finance and Fundraising Committee. One of Mark’s major contributions was to help AFJM to develop a marketing campaign, working with us to create and mail an 8-page booklet on the history of, need for, benefits of, and legislative means to achieve sovereign money reform in the US. One can read it online here: https://www.monetaryalliance.org/wp-content/uploads/8-page-Booklet-PDF.pdf. Mark's knowledge, spirit of cooperation and collaboration, levity, and efficiency in getting stuff done were remarkable and made an indelible difference for the work of AMI and AFJM and the people in both. We too are at a great loss without him now. May those of you gathering today at Mount Sinai Simi Valley to remember and celebrate Mark’s life know that many monetary reformers across the US, Canada, and beyond are with you in spirit and doing so too. Thanks for sharing Mark with us! May his wisdom and service live on through all of us. We miss you, Mark!

I send my condolences and presence in spirit as people gather to honor Mark's life. Mark and I worked together on money reform, and we published a book together. He was a wonderful, thoughtful, smart, and kind person. I will always hear his words in my mind on several issues where I drifted in one direction like a balloon in the sky and he would pull on the tether and kindly bring me back to a practical focus. I will miss him dearly and will honor his life by continuing to work toward money reform, buoyed by his insights, the dedication he modeled, and his foundation-building support. With a full heart, Virginia

DONNA GAYE SAGONA

My name is Donna Sagona and I first was introduced to Mark in 2001 after my husband Richard had suddenly died at the age of 57. My brother-in-law, Ron Sagona and his wife Tami took me to Mark's office in Encino. I was completely grief stricken and Mark showed me such compassion. He invested the money my husband Richard left me and to this day I am beyond grateful for all he did to keep me financially safe. Mark was a wise and extremely kind person. We will miss him greatly.
