Henry Lewin

September 11th, 1936 - August 17th, 2023

September 11th, 1936 - August 17th, 2023

Henry Lewin, 86, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at home on August 17 after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by his daughters, Debra and Michelle, and life partner, Marina. Henry was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1936.  At age 11, and without a word of English, Henry, his sister Judy, and their parents, Dora and Jaime, immigrated to America and settled in Los Angeles. In 1955, Henry graduated from Dorsey High School, where he was Senior Class President and a Varsity football player. He earned an undergraduate degree at UCLA in 1959, his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1962, and enjoyed a rewarding career as a lawyer for nearly 60 years. Henry first served the State of California as a Deputy Attorney General handling cases before regulatory agencies including the Board of Medical Examiners. Thereafter, and until his retirement in 2016, Henry worked in private practice primarily defending health care professionals in licensing proceedings. Beyond his profession, Henry enjoyed horseback riding in Griffith Park, cheering on the Dodgers, picnicking at the Hollywood Bowl, going to the theatre, and dining out with friends and family. He showered his children and grandchildren with love, support, and generosity, traversing the 405 for every milestone and celebration. Of his most generous gifts to his family are the values of hard work, responsibility, and integrity that he instilled in the hearts of us all. Henry is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judy Kramer. He is survived by his beloved daughters Debra (Evan) Grossman and Michelle (Steve) Economos, treasured grandchildren, Kenna and Camden Grossman, and David, Matthew, Alexandra, and Nicole Economos, and his love of 26 years, Marina Sulkhan.
