Jacqueline L Applebaum

August 19th, 1941 - May 20th, 2022

August 19th, 1941 - May 20th, 2022

Jackie Applebaum August 19, 1941 – May 20, 2022 Jackie Applebaum died peacefully at home in Beverly Hills, surrounded by her family and her beloved dogs, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The oldest child of Harold and Mamie Goosen, Jackie spent her early years in LA’s Boyle Heights neighborhood before moving with her family to Beverlywood.  After graduating from Hamilton High, Jackie moved to Chicago to begin her career in the financial services field, becoming one of the youngest stockbrokers in the country at the age of 21.  Several years later, she returned to Los Angeles where she met and married Harold Applebaum, with whom she had her only child, Libby. After the birth of her daughter, Jackie began her first business in residential interior design.  A few years later, she opened a boutique public relations firm in Beverly Hills, and helped launch many well-known brands and restaurants including The Mandarin and Le Dome. From 1980 to 1986, she was a consultant to Procter & Gamble’s Vidal Sassoon brand and managed the company’s participation in the 1984 Olympics. In the early 1990s she consulted for Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Agency, for whom she started an Entertainment Division in New York and Los Angeles. In 1998, Jackie became a partner in 220 Labs, a manufacturer of private label products for many major health and beauty brands. In 1999 Applebaum and celebrity hair stylist Laurent DuFourg formed Prive Professional Products, ultimately selling the company in 2017. The following year she and her husband Stephen launched BBQ Hero, a wholesale specialty food brand of BBQ ribs and brisket, which delighted many tastebuds until the couple retired. Jackie was an accomplished home chef and gourmet who loved to entertain.  She was incredibly curious about the world, which she enjoyed exploring with friends and family. She was a patron of the Center Theater Group and the LA Opera.  Jackie had a passion for living, and was blessed to have lived a life in which she felt she had not missed anything she wanted to see and do.   She will be missed by many friends, and above all, by her dogs and her family.  She is survived by her husband Stephen Sheanin, daughter Libby Harrison (Dan Harrison), stepdaughter Wendy Sheanin (Robert Wyatt), stepson Aaron Sheanin (Shannon Steen) and four grandchildren.  Her sister, Stephanie Glickman, predeceased her in 1999.   In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be directed to Skirball Hospice at https://www.skirballhospice.org/  or Cedars Sinai Hospital to support cancer research at https://www.cedars-sinai.org/giving.html. Alternatively, please contact 323-866-7763 or mail a check to Cedars-Sinai Advancement, Attn: Laura Asok, 8700 Beverly Blvd., Suite 2416, Los Angeles, CA 90048 and we ask that “in memory of Jacqueline Applebaum/for BRCA Cancer Research” be noted on the memo line.
