Madeline Ann Cooperman (nee Gordon) of Northridge, CA died peacefully on June 23, 2026 surrounded in love and family. Born in Ware, MA on February 4, 1938, Madeline was the daughter of Samuel Gordon (Shmuel Moszcenik) of Eisheshyok Lithuania and Sarah Iskowitz. She was the younger sister to brothers Irving, Milton and Jack. Madeline moved to California as a teen where she remained the rest of her life. After attending UCLA and a life changing trip to Israel, she met and married her husband of 60 years Philip Cooperman. They raised their two sons, Jess and Michael in Northridge. Teaching was her passion and she taught ESL in the LA Unified School District and later Yiddish in her retirement years running a class previously at the JCC and then at The Village of Northridge where she became a resident in 2020. She was a proud Jew, Zionist and American and even prouder mother and grandmother. She was devoted to keeping the family from the US, Israel and Brazil connected and corresponded for decades with cousins and relatives from all over the world. Madeline is survived by her devoted husband Phil, her son Michael and Aliza Cooperman, daughter in law Rozana Cooperman and Igor Kay, grandchildren Benjamin Cooperman, Shira Cooperman, Samuel Cooperman, Adam Kay and Carly Cooperman, sister in law Linda Gordon, brother in law Jack Cooperman and her devoted caregiver Michelle Feinstein. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, sisters in laws Dorothy Gordon and Joan Gordon and her beloved son Jess.
Funeral service will be held on Friday June 26, 2026 at 10 am at Mount Sinai in Hollywood Hills. Shiva will be held at The Village of Northridge then at Michael and Aliza’s home in Needham, MA.
