Philip A. Kal
April 20th, 1927 - December 11th, 2023
April 20th, 1927 - December 11th, 2023
Born April 20, 1927 in Illinois. Died December 11th, 2023 in Los Angeles, Phil was raised in Illinois and graduated from Crane Technical High School. He Enlisted in the Army in 1946 and travelled through Germany during his service. Afterward he used the GI Bill to attend Roosevelt university and received a Bachelor of Science in Industry. He settled down in Oak Park Illinois with his wife Marilyn and raised 3 children, Gayle, Harris, and Holly. In the 50s and 60’s Phil had his own accounting practice in Chicago and lived the “Mad Men” executive lifestyle, commuting to work in the morning and back in the evening. When his children were grown and out of the house, Phil and Marilyn divorced.
When his son Harris moved to Los Angeles to be an actor, Phil came to visit and met Harris’s Agent, Judy Savage. Harris was one of Judy’s first clients to get a recurring spot on a series, ‘Happy Days,” and her agency began to grow. Judy claims that she was audited 11 times and Phil came to her rescue and untangled everything. Soon he married her and became stepfather to Mark, Tracie and Brad Savage and Brad’s wife Bron, then grandfather to Keaton & Trevyn and Michael Tate. While working with Judy’s clients Phil became an expert in taxes for actors and soon had a long list of performers on his client list. He worked with his friend Frank Akef in his Beverly hills office. He and Judy lived in the Hollywood Hills and then Toluca Lake for their 32 year marriage. They have traveled extensively, with a trip to the Holy-land a highlight. In Later years, Phil and Judy were devoted to their dogs, Mr. Belvedere and Baxter.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to charities Phil supported.
