"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you." -BB King

Wendy Cohan, 83, passed away peacefully June 29, 2026, in Los Angeles, surrounded by family, including her children and grandchildren, following a long but courageous battle with dementia. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Rockaway Beach, NY, Wendy raised her own family in Briarcliff Manor before returning to her beloved Manhattan. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friend's at her and her husband's  home in East Hampton, NY. She spent her final two years in Los Angeles to be close to family.   Wendy was predeceased by her husband, Mark Jeffrey Cohan, in 2016. Wendy graduated from Boston University, where she met Jeff, and later obtained her Master's from Hunter College. A passionate, lifelong educator, she spent the majority of her career at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School, where she proudly served as the chair of the Learning Center. She was an avid reader, loved traveling, had a deep devotion to the field of education and to all of her students. Recently described by a friend and colleague as elegant, witty, charming, fashionable, kind and endlessly insightful, Wendy cherished her vast, diverse circle of lifelong friends and colleagues, ideally among Chinese food and a glass of scotch.   She is survived by her sons, Ethan (Jonathan) and Jed, and grandsons, Abel and Adrian. Wendy was deeply loved and will be missed by all. A memorial service will be planned by the family in the future. Donations: Alzheimer's Foundation of America, CaringKind or the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
