In Loving Memory of Elinor “Elie” SayreSeptember 21, 1925 - May 10, 2026

 

Elinor “Elie” Sayre of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. Born on September 21, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, Elie grew up in Hollywood, California and lived for a short time in Phoenix, Arizona.

 

Elie attended and graduated from Hollywood High School.  Her class of 1943 held their graduation ceremony at the Hollywood Bowl in 1944, delayed due to the United States participation in World War II,

Always beautiful, stunningly dressed and bedazzled, Elie was fun and ready to party, especially with her loving husband James Sayre (of blessed memory).

 

She is survived by her son Steve Horvitz (Carol); her daughter, Margie Moulton and her Stepson Darron Sayre (Marilyn). Brothers Jay Dorin (Lisa), nephew Max, Barry Dorin (Moria) and nephews Marc (of blessed memory), and Michael, and niece Michelle (Charlie). Elie adored her Grandchildren David Horvitz (Michelle); Michael Horvitz (Margot), Step Grandson David Ducommun (Kirstin), Tristan Sayre (of blessed Memory), and Step Granddaughter Ariel Sayre.

 

Elie embraced all her blended family. Her long full life allowed her to enjoy Great Grandchildren Jake Horvitz, Zachary Horvitz, and Catherine and Caroline Ducommun.

 

The family is eternally grateful to Aura Rodenas for taking care of Elie and Jimmy for 42 years.

A private life celebration will be held on May 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Cemetery. The family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Elie’s honor.
