Recuerdos

December 4th, 1946 - September 30th 2026

Nancy Susan Klevens (nee Rosenberg), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend died in her sleep on Wednesday, September 30th.  She was 79 years old.  She is survived by her devoted children, David Klevens (Cheryl) and Alisa Yungerman (Ethan) and her grandchildren, Chase and Cody Klevens (17), Isaac (13) and Orli (11) Yungerman.  She is predeceased by her husband and loving partner, Dr. Stephen S. Klevens.

Nancy had a very full and rich life that was unexpectedly cut much too short.  Her family, friends, and community were enriched by her generosity and exuberant spirit and are greatly diminished by her passing.

Nancy was a caring, compassionate, curious, and vibrant woman.  After graduating from UCLA, with honors, Nancy started her working life as a certified elementary school teacher and, along with being a full-time parent and home-maker, earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, specializing in Reading Instruction.  In later years, she went on to become a paraprofessional counselor at Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue and ran numerous affinity groups, bringing friends and community members together, with her warmth and smarts.  These include: ‘Kvetch & Kvell,’ a women’s group through Hadassah; the Doria Book Club, as facilitator; Social Butterflies Widows’ Group, as founder; Hope Connection bereavement group participant; as well as many years in a Chavurah, sharing simchas with close friends in her Jewish community.

Nancy and Steve led a joyous and happy life together, spanning 47 years of marriage, crossing continents, enjoying music and good food, and celebrating special occasions with friends and family.   After Steve’s passing, Nancy continued to pursue her passions.

Nancy was a sensational role model – busy, in mind and body.  She was an avid reader, crossword puzzler, and always up for doing Connections and Wordle with her grandkids.  She loved movement and participated in weekly Israeli dance classes, where she impressed others with her scholastic memory for complicated choreography.  She continued to travel the world with friends, forever up for an adventure.  And, she would always pick up the phone, lend an ear and some good advice to those she loved.

Nancy meant the world to so many and will continue to shine her light through her blessed memory.

Nancy is also survived by her sister, Stanlee Rubin (Jerry) and their family; brother-in-law Joel Klevens (Susan) and their family, and many cherished cousins.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hadassah:  The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue, or to Nancy’s favorite charity, Fistula Foundation.

A memorial service for Nancy will be held on Monday, October 5th, 2026, 2:30 p.m. at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 6150 Mt. Sinai Drive, Simi Valley, CA 93063
