Wendi Korkes

Wendi was my first friend--and a friend for life. We met in 1965 in kindergarten. I rememer the day: She turned to me and said, "Hey girl, I like your boots!" She was so enthusiastic that she kind of elbowed me a bit too hard, and I cried. After school, I told my mother that she had made me cry that day, and that was when our mothers met and also became fast friends. We were also neighbors and Wendi and I spent countless hours and days hanging out in our youth--and thereafter retained a love for one another, even when we didn't have the opportunity to spend time together. Wendi's first words to me were perfectly characteristic of her, as she was always ready with a heartfelt compliment and kind words. She was so filled with love, sweetness, generosity, and care for both humans and animals. Wendi was a truly special person, and I'm honored to have known her and privileged to call her my friend. I love you, Wendi and I will always hold you in my heart. My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved her, and will miss her as I do. The pair of candlesticks was a joint gift from Wendi and my mother. The photo shows white candles burning in them during the memorial in Wendi's honor and memory.
